Dr. Christopher Yuan explains that although the phrase ‘love the sinner, hate the sin’ makes sense to Christians, this is not the best thing to say to someone, especially someone who identifies as gay. Dr. Yuan describes how when people hear this, it just sounds like we are saying that their whole person is reprehensible to God. The best way to show you love someone is not to say it, but simply to do it.

Jesus said, "your sins are forgiven you; go and sin no more". The sinner and the sin are seperate.
@GrandmasterGib
It's usually stated "God loves the sinner but hates the sin" which is in direct contrast to scriptures such as Psalms 5:5 “… thou hatest all workers of iniquity.” ("workers of iniquity" is the same as "sinner"). We as Christians are told to love our enemies and share the gospel. Our message is not "God loves you" but rather inviting people to seek/follow God and come into His love.

I mean every one of us is a sinner. Who's perfect n holy amoung us? We are living n saved just by Grace.

Honest question, would Jesus Christ really use this sentence (like most Americans do) today to reach people who are in a state of sin?
I feel that this sentence or cliché misses the point of how Jesus Christ treated sinners. I mean, I get the fact that we as Christians are to abhor sin, in other words, reject it and pursue a life of holiness, but using this sentence or cliché seems counterproductive.
I feel that Jesus Christ, the one revealed in the Gospels, would not use this at any moment in time.

“Sinners”
Says the people who have never observed the Sabbath.
@RogherHargus
I don't believe you can separate the two. It isn't the sin that goes to hell but the sinner. The wrath of God does not abide on the sin but the sinner. Jesus said depart from me I never knew you.
@davidward5225
They don’t feel loved because it is their “practice” of sin that makes them a sinner. Consequently, when you “hate the sin” you are hating them. Just love the sinner.
@TROYPETERSON999
Mercy comes from the love of God as does the hatred of the sinners sin.
Jude 1:23 Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. SHOW MERCY to still others, but do so with great caution, HATING the sins that contaminate their lives.”
Romans 5:8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

God does not love the sinner. Psalms says he abhors the wicked. We say God hates the sin but loves the sinner, well…he is not sending the sin to hell!! He hated Esau, and all who do evil Psalm 5. He is kind to all, sending the rain on the just and unjust but everyday the sinner refuses to repent heaps up wrath on himself. Also, it says, in Psalm 51, a broken and contrite heart, oh God, you will never despise.

Psalm 5:5 says God HATES all workers of iniquity. Psalm 11:5 says God’s soul HATES the wicked, and those that love violence. And the Bible teaches that we are to love what God loves, AND we are to HATE what God hates. And it says that if someone condones, or supports the wicked, He considers them an enabler, and holds them equally guilty of their sins. (Like aiding and abetting in a crime)

I know that I'm a sinner, more than I ever could imagine. I had gotten away from people, I was already a loner, so I had an edge I thought over the extroverts. My wife wasn't saved, but I had managed to get and myself away from the hustle and bustle of living in the city. Although we were away from our family and her friends, she wasn't satisfied with the simple life style that I had provided for us. I knew myself well enough that I didn't want to sin, I didn't want to be around the pain and confusion of sinful people, like myself. My then wife didn't understand this. Well her friend and relatives led to her cheating on me.

Wonder if God loves the sinner, wonder if all goes to heaven
Wonder why Jesus came
@silverskye203
Just commenting honestly and with no mean to offend, just to share how I see it as an apostate … That phrase feels like an excuse as a convenient way to judge someone while avoiding being seen as judgemental. It seems very pompous and judgemental while seeming to avoid negative judgements on oneself. I hate it because it seems like a closed statement with no option for critical thinking while insulting innocent pure people.
@zekcool5468
Thank you I believe it pushes people away from God
@iacoponefurio1915
The actual real God described in the bible is not mickey mouse. He does and will destroy the wicked. And He alone makes Israel holy.
@iacoponefurio1915
Jesus type of death shows YHVH righteous just virulent unquenchable hatred of sin.
For us its not personal. Our law enforcers fill a position to enforce someone elses law.
For Elohim Adonai it is entirely personal He set the universe in motion and He despises all sin and sinner.
Be sure to do ALL i have commanded you so my soul will not abhor or hate you.
He will not ignore those who hate him but will repay them to their face what they deserve and destroy them.
@dwmaruska8042
All in all and I always thought that's what Jesus said when he said take the sliver out of you eye before looking and judging
@dansaber4427
You can be LGBT and Christian
@Will-nb8qk
The problem is Christians use it on Christians. It’s used to justify judging others to be frank.
@toneloke6987
I agree I work with homosexuals trans genders you name it and I do not hate not one of them I look at those people and most are great people and as much as i know they are doing something I do not believe in I actually love some of them unconditionally
@rocketsurgeon1746
We must preach God's Word too. Show them where if they do not repent and change their ways, they will be judged and sent to hell. That is love
@HolyMuchii
I understand that "hate the sin, not the sinner" means that we and our actions need to be judged separately. A person must confess and be responsible for his actions (sins). I think they separe sin and sinner, because one of them can be redeemed (sinner) and the other not (sin).
@philipbuckley759
Psalm 7.11 God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.
